In line with the Year of Faith [Oct 11, 2012 to Nov 24, 2013], which is an opportunity to experience a conversion – to turn back to Jesus and enter into a deeper relationship with Him, The Serra Club of Markham & Scarborough held its Vocation Awareness Day on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at St. Patrick’s Church, Highway 7 in Markham, Ontario, Canada from 8:30 am to 12:00 noon.

It was a well-attended event numbering approximately 110 attendees. The day started with a concelebrated Mass at 8:30 am with Fr. Dominic Barber, Archbishop Larry Saldanha, Fr. Hansoo Park, Fr. Adam Bobola, assisted by the Seminarians and the Altar Servers from St. Patrick’s Church, who recently received their Altar Server Bishop's awards....Harold Luz, James Solis, Bernard Guintu, Catherine Lim and Matthew Lim.

Fr. Hansoo Park, Vocations Director of the Archdiocese of Toronto, along with three other Seminarians from the Serra House graced the occasion as well. We can truly say that Fr. Hansoo is a fisher of Men, and we are very proud to be associated with him in our work for Vocations.

The gathering was a special time when we pray for the renewal and strengthening of all vocations within the Church as we listen to the invited speakers who stimulated our minds to encourage us to discern God’s calling.

Seminarians from the Archdiocese of Toronto shared their Life stories with the audience, mostly touching on how they recognized God's calling, how they responded to the call and how their Parents responded to the situation.

Everyone eagerly awaited each Speaker to come to the podium, and most were teary eyed as they were touched by the stories of these five young Men from St Augustine Seminary, one from Serra House and one from Malta.

Seminarian Speakers were:

The second half of this event was devoted for travelling vocation chalice families, where we introduced and distributed St. Faustina’s Prayer for Holy Church and for Priests prayer cards. Each prayer cards had the name of Scarborough and Markham pastors or associate pastors that families can include in their prayers.

The event ended with everyone uplifted with the Seminarian’s inspiring stories, religious fellowship and prayers.
