Canada Council / Conseil Canadien
What Council Does
The first Serra Club was started in Canada over 50 years ago. In June 2000 the Canada Council of Serra International was established to represent Serra in Canada and to respond to the particular needs of our clubs and members as they work for the promotion of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. The Board of the Canada Council is responsible for the promotion of Serra in Canada by assisting clubs in their work of promoting vocations and by encouraging the formation of new clubs. The long term objective of the Council is to have a Serra club in every diocese in Canada.
Relation of Councils to Serra International
The responsibilities of National Councils versus the responsibilies of Serra International have been debated within the Serra community as plans for the restructuring of Serra, initiated by a report from the Long Range Planning Committe, are being worked out. The basis for present discussions is given in an agreement reached in Omaha late in 2007.
